“How do you still have so much stuff?” A question I get quite often, despite being on a minimalism journey for the past nine months. Declutter, purge, repeat. Declutter, purge, repeat. And yet, the stuff seems to just keep piling up. There’s really nothing minimalist about it! But the answer is, I just started with a LOT of stuff! Truth be told, I really don’t shop for new things anymore, I simply unearth old things while trying to declutter and organize my life.
With the upload of my latest video, “Everything I’ve Bought In 2017“, I showcased everything I personally brought into the house, as well as everything I’ve received as gifts. Of course, this excludes basic necessities, like groceries, hygiene products, etc. I’ll continue to add to this list as it grows!
Everything I’ve Bought In 2017:
1. “Poke Me” Cactus & Succulent Leggings
2. Game of Thrones Dragon Scale Leggings
3. Up and Away Cloud Leggings
4. UE Boom Portable Speaker (Best Speaker Ever!)
5. GoPro Hero 5
6. Swell Water Bottle
7. Vegan Leather Purse
8. Mexican Handcrafted Glasses
9. Kitchen Drawer Organizer
10. The Best Clothes Hangers! (Velvet Clothes Hangers)
11. Tank Top Holder (Space Saver!)
Stay tuned, I’m photographing and adding the remaining items soon! In the meantime, you can watch my YouTube video here, that shows everything!

Thank you for doing this post, I’ve been watching your YouTube series for a few months now and love it. So many times you pull items that I myself have bought and have no use for. I laugh inside with all of the similarities I see in my own life. This post was great because for some time I’ve been pulling my hair out with all of the purging without giving real thought on the rate at which I “bring stuff in”. Starting Jan. 2018 … or now, I’m going start a severe goal of a limit of the amount of new items I bring in. Thanks for all of your great videos and advice. Keep them coming!
Awesome job this year! I’d love to know the brand of pants you bought from Kohls. Thanks for all your videos. You have me thinking about keeping a list of purchases now.
At one time, I kept at notebook with all my purchases.in an effort to see help work on a budget. I did not change my buying habits at first. Later I did and found myself getting excited to see a blank page, as I listed the day and date everyday. and in the rare days I put a great big -0-. I begin to work toward the -0- page. Well I did back slide and now after seeing this video of yours and I going to start again. And hopefully stay with it.
Love your videos
Love ❤️

Rachel, I live in Oregon, but have been visiting Michigan for a week. While staying in Maple City, we spent some time in Northport. We drove down the road to your motel this past Sunday, but I didn’t want to intrude. I recognized your house immediately from your videos and that was fun for me. I’ve enjoyed your journey. Having less clutter comes naturally to me. My husband and I are up in the Upper Peninsula right now. Michigan is beautiful!
Hi Harriet! Okay, I’m about 4 months behind on responding to this, but I just wanted to say hi! Awesome that you came and visited Northport, I hope you enjoyed your time in Leelanau County and the U.P.! Take care!!
I just wanted to let you know that I have devoured all of your YouTube videos this past week. I’m in a different place than you but looking for the exact same things. 🙂 I got divorced a couple of years ago and because my parents have very strong feelings about what that makes me (a beggar who can’t be a chooser) the handed down things to me when I got my own place. I left a lot behind in the divorce.
On purpose
But my parent in their desire to “help me” gave me things like stained shredded towels and a door mat they were getting rid of because it was so worn!
O.o
What the heck?!?!
Anyway. I couldn’t stand it anymore and decided to make my life mine. Through minimalism-and found you.
Thank you. For being you and sharing your journey.
You have made me laugh and feel Ike I’m having a cup of tea with you in your kitchen and in the lonely aftermath of divorce it has been a comfort and inspiration.
Hey there! I didn’t realize you had a blog too, but I subscribed to your YouTube channel a few months ago! Great job! I love how you show your reality and the fact that you’re a human being.
I love your videos and I started my journey to minimalism more than a year ago, but I have intensified it the past 4 months after walking 729 km on El Camino Frances in Spain with only a small back pack. It reminded me of my youth when all I owned could fit in a back pack. I miss those days and I want to get that freedom back. The freedom of having only a few things. Thank you for making these inspiring videos!
Love those tank top organisers – I didn’t know they existed! I wonder if I can get them in the uk!
I’m pretty sure we’re the same person – I’m also a messy minimalist and slowly going through a conversion! I’m gonna be that girl and ask — where did you buy that lovely shawl? That was a very deliberately well chosen purchase! 🙂 Also, this is awesome – thank you for sharing your gift and being vulnerable.
