Happiness VS Contentment – Which is better and why?

    October 19, 2017

If I asked you, “are you happy?”, how would you answer? Would you simply say ‘yes’ or ‘no’, or would you respond with a question of your own? Perhaps, you’d…

    Everything I’ve Bought In 2017

    September 14, 2017

“How do you still have so much stuff?” A question I get quite often, despite being on a minimalism journey for the past nine months. Declutter, purge, repeat. Declutter, purge,…

The Value of Morning ME Time

    September 7, 2017

Good morning. Or just hello, if you’re reading this anytime other than morning. But for me, it’s morning. Hopeful, quiet, perfect morning. This time of the day didn’t always feel…

3 Questions I Ask Myself Every Day

    August 15, 2017

Every morning, I start my day the same. I sit quietly (if only for a moment) and ask myself, “What do I WANT to do today?” “What SHOULD I do…

    July 28, 2017

Well, I’m back. “Where did you go?” you might be wondering. The answer is, I didn’t go anywhere. Instead, it’s where I choose NOT to go: My blog. A few…

    A Healthy Fear of Boredom

    May 2, 2017

Do you ever wish you could just freeze time? I’m not talking about freezing a joyful moment so it can last forever, I’m talking about stretching a moment in time…

The strange way I learned the price of happiness

    April 15, 2017

Something curious happened today. A couple scheduled to stay with us approached my husband and I with a serious inquiry: “We’d like to talk about buying your motel”. Not a typical statement we…

The Avalanche Effect | How To Avoid Cleaning Landslides

    March 9, 2017

Today I’d like to talk about something I’m calling, “The Avalanche Effect”. It’s a concept I coined while attempting to clean out my laundry room, and it describes a phenomenon…

  • Feeling peace in quiet contemplation this morning. I wish I could share this place with you. What’s everyone’s mindset these days? Are you effected by the pandemic? Are you and your family safe? Are you exhausted? Are you simply over it? Are you hurting? Happy? Just surviving? Living in abundance? I hope whatever you’re feeling, wherever you are, that some positive is coming from your situation. ❤️☮️
  • I’ve talked about re-painting this wall for months now, but with Halloween around the corner I guess it can stay a LITTLE longer! Anyone else itching to re-paint walls, or is it just me?!
  • Imperfection As a perfectionist, it’s SUPER hard to be OK with imperfection. But I show it, because imperfection is real. It’s organic. It’s the natural order of things before we try to straighten them up. You might even say Messy Minimalism is just an “imperfect” version of minimalism. It’s why - despite all my flaws - I continue to embrace MY version of minimalism. No excess beyond what we deem necessary for sustainable contentment. This is my girls’ bedroom. No staging, no fluffing of pillows or straightening of dolls. They do their best to make their beds each day -
  • *chronic pain/illness post* Debated for days about posting this selfie. Dirty mirror. Toys in the back (can I darken those shadows enough to hide them?!) The evening I snapped this pic, I was battling 2 days with a locked jaw. (a TMJ disorder that started over 20 years ago). I was confident it would resolve itself. It’s now been over a WEEK and my jaw still won’t open more than a finger-width. I’m exhausted. Defeated. But I came back to this photo, because my past self(ie) had hope. I felt confident, in that moment, that my ailment wouldn’t control my
  • What area in your home gets the most use? For us - it’s by FAR our dining table. It’s a desk, it’s a homeschool classroom, it’s where we eat, where we draw or play games, and where we sit and gaze during our morning coffee. This ONE piece of furniture has given us so much! Anyone else have a similar space? #thankful #mindfulness #autumnvibes
  • Our days are getting shorter and colder. I think it’s time to close up our Oasis for the season.
